CΔCHING OUT @ Festival of the Arts

Image
Because THE CΔCHE is founded by California State University, Sacramento alumni, it was our honor and duty to cover the 2017 Festival of the Arts (FotA), hosted by the College of Arts and Letters at Sacramento State. The Festival of the Arts is a celebration of every department across the College of Arts and Letters for the week of April 5-9 that pays tribute to English, Theater, Music & Dance, Photography, Language, Design, History, Film, Philosophy and Art. For these five days, there are a range of events across disciplines that engage the students and community both on and off campus. While there was much to attend for the FotA, THE CΔCHE was only available for two events particular to our interests: U-Create!, and the Art History Art Talk, “How Do You Make an Art Museum & Why?” with Rachel Teagle, Director of the Manetti-Shrem Museum at UC Davis, and Lawrence Rinder, Director of Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) at UC Berkeley. U-Create! U-Create!...

CΔCHING OUT @ Artspace 1616

Artspace 1616, the hidden gallery gem of Del Paso Heights, houses a collection of local working artists, and frequently rotates exhibitions in a wide range of content and media. At present, three shows are on display that feature works on paper in highly distinctive and varying forms. The artists are Radmila Jovandic-Dapic, Gioia Fonda, and Sandra Cappelletti, and the content of their works couldn't be more different. Fortunately, the differences and similarities between these shows allow for them to shine individually. The flow of the gallery space also provides clear partitions that charge a visual reset, and no room for confusion between each artist’s works. Balkans by Jovandic-Dapic, Tomorroshambo: 40 or so harmless experiments with secret meanings by Fonda, and Birds and Other Creatures by Cappelletti are three separate shows that don’t necessarily go together, but they do inspire curiosity to explore and introspection to discuss. Gioia Fonda Gioia Fonda’s Tomorr...

CΔCHING OUT @ ArtStreet

The month of February has struck Sacramento with a whopping arts experience. A temporary, warehouse location has become the site of ArtStreet , a multi-disciplinary extravaganza  of artists, both local and international, with works accessible and free to the public from February 3rd-25th, 2017. M5ARTS, a new arts initiative in Downtown Sacramento, brought this memorable experience to our community after a year of planning since their first project, Art Hotel, exposed the region to a significant and striking amount of public art. While Art Hotel took place downtown in an abandoned hotel awaiting demolition, many eager visitors were unable to gain access because of the show’s limited running time. This time around, however, guests are invited in for 45 minute increments and can navigate through the warehouse of ArtStreet more freely; that is, until time's up and the profuse amount of stimulating media leaves them wanting for more. Luckily, three weeks and many after-hours special pe...
